.PRO Domain Extension

Why choose a .PRO domain?

This one does not belong to the same generation as the others. It was delegated on 8 May 2002, more than a decade before the great wave of new extensions in 2013 and 2014, and it was created for a specific purpose: to reserve a space for licensed professionals — lawyers, doctors, accountants, engineers. The conditions have relaxed considerably since, but IANA still classifies it among the restricted extensions, and the word has kept that seriousness.

Amateur or professional

That is the line the word draws: you do this for a living. Useful in trades where a great many people do the same thing as a hobby.

The regulated profession

Professional body, registration number, indemnity insurance. The suffix supports those statements instead of jarring against them.

Age

Twenty years is a long time in this field. The word smells neither of novelty nor of fashion, which reassures a cautious clientele.

Brevity

Three characters, one syllable, no spelling to explain. One of the shortest addresses it is possible to obtain.

Demonstrated expertise

Training, certifications, years in practice, publications. The word promises seriousness: the page has to supply the evidence.

What it actually changes

• It is far older than the others. Delegated in 2002: the only one in our catalogue predating the 2013-2014 wave.
• IANA still classifies it as restricted. Registration has opened up substantially, but check with us before building a project on it.
• It draws a useful line. Where many people practise as amateurs, three letters are enough to set you apart.
• It works as an email address too. practice@harding.pro is about as short as a professional address gets.
