Why choose a .DEGREE domain?

Every other word in this group names a place, a field or an activity. This one names the outcome: the paper at the end. That is very clear — and it is also what makes it delicate. The word is associated, fairly or otherwise, with diploma mills selling worthless titles. If you use it, your first task is to establish who recognises what you award, and to do so immediately.

The award

Exact title, level, credits, normal length of study. An employer or a professional body checks those, not your home page.

Accreditation

Who recognises your programme, since when, on what terms. The first thing to write, and it must be verifiable from outside.

The programme

Modules, sequence, placements, graduation requirements. Applicants compare course structures far more than they compare slogans.

Recognition

Credit transfer, progression elsewhere, eligibility for registration. “Where does this lead” is the question that decides the enrolment.

Cost

Tuition, additional fees, financial support, overseas rates. Hiding the total drives away precisely the most serious applicants.

What it actually changes

• It names the outcome. That is what separates it from .training, which aims at a competence, and .school, which names a place.
• The word carries a reputation. Diploma mills damaged the term: accreditation has to be visible on the first screen.
• No registration restrictions. The registrar verifies no accreditation — your applicants and their future employers certainly will.
• It works as an email address too. admissions@northern.degree states its purpose with nothing to explain.
